The Opportunity

Seed, Soil, and Spirit (located in Treaty 3 in what is Ontario, Canada) is a school led by and primarily for Indigenous, Black, and racialized communities and allies/accomplices that offers culturally respectful, self-determined, decolonial approaches to plant medicine, land stewardship, and community care. Our courses are intended for Black, Indigenous, racialized, and allied people who want to learn about plant medicine and stewardship through live online classes, recorded video modules, and self-directed learning.

We are developing a new program tentatively titled, “Don’t Just Take, Take Care: Wild Foraging in Right Relationship” that will highlight and engage Traditional Indigenous/Ecological Knowledge with and for racialized communities regarding kin-centered and reciprocal approaches to land relationship, wild foraging, and plant medicine that will result in increased biodiversity, climate, and community resilience. In this course, we will work with Indigenous Knowledgekeepers who hold global traditional knowledge about wild foraging and plant medicine and who practice climate and community-resilient land relationship practices to develop a curriculum that manifests a vision of cultural humility, congruence, and adoption of new cultural skills in wild spaces. Our goal is to reach herbalists, earth workers, cultivators, foragers, activists, etc to ensure they have the tools to help support biodiversity and Indigenous systems that honor Indigenous knowledge keepers’ ways of Being, Doing, and Knowing.

We are searching for someone with a knack for organizational and coordination brilliance, who can build respectful relationships with our advisory community, partners, and service providers to ensure the smooth flow of operations for the development of this new curriculum. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, have an interest in or be well-versed in Herbalism, Indigenous Community Engagement, Project Management, and Coordination, and be enthusiastic to manage a variety of different tasks on any given day, and lead with integrity, care, and passion for providing thoughtful and supportive project evolution. They will be a forward-looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.
